The Vault
-
Overview: The “Vault” is designed as a centralized hub where users can collect information and research on a specific investable security. There is one unique “Vault” per investable security located within each investment card.
-
Entering the Vault: Upon entering the “Vault” for the first time, several options are presented: 1) “Add a Page” 2) “Use Vassant’s Template” 3) “Use Custom Template” and 4) "Use Spotlight Profile.” To create a new “Vault” from scratch, users must choose one of the following options:
- Add a Page: Enables a user to add a blank page, with one of two formats: a “Section Page” or a “Checklist Page.”
- A “Section Page” is characterized by the ability to create one or more sections within a new “Vault” page, each with unique titles and text boxes. Information can be typed live or copy/pasted from other sources. A “Section Page” has the following core features: 1) Section boxes and 2) Section headers (title) and 3) Section bodies (description). Subsections within a “Section Page” may be given unique title names and unique descriptions, enabling users to segment investment information depending on preference of organization. An empty section may be deleted at any time by backspacing on either the title or description fields.
- A “Checklist Page” has a pre-built checklist structure, in which users can add unique titles with supplementary information, accompanied by colorable boxes to indicate alignment with a specific investment philosophy. A “Checklist Page” has the following core features: 1) Criteria boxes 2) Colorable identifiers and 3) Subsections underneath each checklist item. A “Checklist Page” primarily functions to offer users a way to standardize a specific investment philosophy between different investments, although its applications may be broader. To name a new checklist section, simply tap the “Criteria…” leader text and rename the checklist section. To color a checklist box, simply tap the box, after which a popup menu with color options will appear. To add supplementary information to each checklist section, tap the “+” icon on the right side of the checklist section and press “+ Add Item.” A new text subsection will appear which can hold text. An unlimited number of text subsections can be created for each checklist subsection. To delete a text subsection at any time, simply backspace on an empty text subsection. Similarly, a checklist subsection may be deleted at any time by backspacing on an empty checklist section. To add a new checklist subsection at any time, press the “+ Add Another Criteria” button at the bottom of the checklist subsections.
- Use Vassant’s Template: Paid users may also use the “Spotlight” template structure for research in the “Vault” for any investment position in the “Invest” tab (“Use Vassant’s Template”). The user gains access to the current structure of the “Vault” organization, along with applicable checklist and section titles. Unique information may be added accordingly.
- Use Custom Template: If the user has already created a custom “Vault” template, a user may choose “Use Custom Template” to initiate a new “Vault” for a unique investable security. The custom template feature generates a structure for research collection, but removes any descriptions added to the original source of the template.
- Use Spotlight Profile: This feature allows users to use all of the content within a “Spotlight” profile in the “Vault” and edit information according to their preferences (“Use Spotlight Profile”). This is only possible if the investment card position matches a profile that is accessible to the user at that point in time.
- Add a Page: Enables a user to add a blank page, with one of two formats: a “Section Page” or a “Checklist Page.”
-
Saving Content: All changes in the Vault are automatically saved.
-
Adding a Page: Users may add a page at any time by tapping the hamburger icon at the top right of the screen and tapping “+ Add a Page.” A “Section Page” or a “Checklist Page” may be added using this function.
-
Deleting a Page: Pages may be deleted at any time by clicking the hamburger icon at the top right of the screen and tapping “Delete Page.” After pressing this, a user will be prompted to confirm deletion of the page. The current page the user is viewing will be deleted when using this action.
-
Page Layout: Pages may be viewed in a comprehensive page layout view at any time by tapping the hamburger icon at the top right of the screen and tapping “View Page Layout.” This brings up a comprehensive display of all the pages in the “Vassant Vault” for that particular investment.
-
In the “Page Layout” view, users may rearrange the order of pages in the “Vault” for that particular investment. First, tap on the page that will be moved. Then, tap either the left or right arrows at the bottom of the screen to move left and right, respectively.
-
In the “Page Layout” view, users may move to a new unique page. First, tap on the page of interest. Then, tape “Go to Page …” at the bottom of the screen.
-
-
Starting Over: To restart a “Vault” for a specific investment card, all pages and content must be deleted. Pages may be deleted at any time by clicking the hamburger icon at the top right of the screen and tapping “Delete Page.”
-
Creating a Template: To create a template (accessible via the “Use Custom Template” feature), users must first create a new structure in the “Vault.” This can be done in many ways: users may create a template from scratch (via using the “Add A Page” feature), editing a previously made custom template, editing “Vassant’s Template,” or editing a “Spotlight Profile” template.
-
A custom template may only be saved when users create a unique combination of pages and structure in the “Vault.” When a new custom template is created by a user, the structure (and not the typed content) of the “Vault” pages is stored. All pages, sections, and titles are stored, while descriptive content (in the description boxes of sections and checklist subsections) is erased. This allows users to standardize their research process across many different positions.
-
To save a custom template at any time, simply press the bookmark icon at the top right of the screen. The user may name the custom template. The custom template may be accessed at any time for an investable equity with no existing pages in that equity’s “Vault.”
-
For example, imagine a user adds 1 checklist page with 5 checklist subsections within that page, and then 1 section page with 3 section pages within that page. This user fills in the checklist titles and content as well as the section title and content. Because this is a unique combination of pages, the user may save as a custom template. When accessing this template from another investment position, 1 checklist page with 5 subsections (and any applicable titles) as well as 1 section page with 3 subsections (and any applicable titles) will be present.
